Bag Tag rounds

Bag Tag rounds (commonly referred to as Tag rounds) are a staple of the disc golf community and a fun way to get to know others in the club and challenge each other to improve your skills. Tags are meant to be displayed on your bag and are engraved with a number that represents your rank within the bag tag structure. At the end of a Tag round tags are distributed based on score, with the best score receiving the lowest tag, and so on.

Tag rounds are hosted every Saturday (with the exception local tournament Saturdays) at one of the 3 courses in Vancouver. The course and layout for this event change every week and are posted Friday nights at 6:00pm on our Events Calendar and Facebook page.

An accrued Tags ace pot is available for Tier 2 & 3 members, with a maximum of $150 available per round. The ace pot is built up by the people who attend Tag rounds and is available for club-hosted Tag rounds only. At the beginning of each Tag round, all attending players turn in their tags and round fees to the Tag round host. Tag round structures, fees and payouts will be in one of two formats:

How Bag Tags Works

Format 1:
Top Payouts

Cost: $2 ($1 to the club, $1 to the Tags ace pot)

Betting: $5 (optional, contributes to cash prizes for the putting competition and top scores of the round)

Cards of 3 – 5 players are decided by a random flip, which gives players the opportunity to meet and play with new people.

After the round is played and scores are submitted, betting players participate in a last-one-standing putting competition, with a payout of $10 to the winner.

Tags are then redistributed based on round score, with the best score receiving the lowest available tag, second best score receiving the second lowest available tag, and so on. Ties are broken using the tying players' previous tag.

Cash prizes are distributed to the betting players with the top scores of the round, with the best score receiving the biggest cash prize, and so on. The number of cash prizes available is determined by the number of people who bet on the round. Usually between 3 – 5 people are paid out in this format.

Format 2:
Even Payouts

Cost: $2 ($1 to the club, $1 to the Tags ace pot)

Betting: $5 (mandatory, contributes to cash prizes for the top scores on each card)

Cards of 3 – 5 players are formed based on incoming tag order. This means that the players with the lowest 3 – 5 tags play on one card, then the next 3 – 5 tags on another card, and so on. Players without a tag will be on the last card(s).

After the round is played and scores are submitted, cash prizes are distributed to the top two players on each card. $15 goes to the best score on each card, and $5 to the second-best score. This format pays out 50% of the field, and because cards are formed based on incoming tag order (and skill level, in theory), everyone has a good chance to take home some cash.

Tags are then redistributed based on overall score in the same fashion as Format 1, with the best score of the round receiving the lowest available tag, second best score receiving the second lowest available tag, and so on. Ties are broken using the tying players' previous tag.

There is no putting competition in this format.

Challenge a player outside of Bag Tag rounds

Players can also challenge each other for bag tags outside of Tag rounds. All players must agree to play for tags before the round starts and playing for tags is always optional. Keep in mind, if you have a low tag (#1 – 10), expect to be challenged regularly, and try to make it to as many Tag rounds as possible! If you don't play for tags for 3 weeks or more, the club is not responsible for any hounding that may result.
